The ever-expanding Barbie toy range had some cool new additions at the end of 2011.
Mattel’s constant updates keeps the 50 year-old plastic super-star a permanent top toy for girls, a long term favorite with tweens, teens and even adults.
It would take forever and a day to go through every doll, playset and accessory currently available, so here’s Toy Tattle’s picks of the hottest new Barbie toys.
Barbie Princess Charm School
Dolls and playsets have been released to accompany the Barbie DVD, Princess Charm School.

In the movie, Barbie plays school girl Blair, who wins a lottery prize of a scholarship at Princess Charm school.
The range includes Transforming Princess Blair Doll ($20) with 3-in-1 outfit, that transforms from school uniform, to party dress, to princess gown.
There are dolls for many of the other film characters, plus 2 playsets.
Barbie Sparkle Lights Mermaid Dolls
Apologies but I can only find this commercial in Polish! But at least you can have a good look at the dolls in action.
Push the necklace and the doll’s tail lights up. Can be used under water, and is available as blonde Barbie, brunette and an African-American doll. Priced at around $20 each.
Barbie Printable Designable Hair Extensions
Take a look at this video from Toys R Us Canada to see how this toy works.
To use this toy you will need to have a printer and access to Internet.
A set will cost you around $32 and includes a doll, 16 printable hair extension sections and 5 clips to hold them in place.
Girls can wear them in their hair, or attach them to your Barbie doll.
I’ve included this in my list because it is one the new Barbie toys that has been heavily hyped in the media ever since NY Toy Fair back in February.
The concept is great and the commercial looks fab, but I’d urge you to check out the parent’s reviews left at Toys R Us and Amazon before you part with your money.
