Best Toys of 2013 Announced – TOTY Awards

Best Toys of 2013 Announced – TOTY Awards

At this month’s Toy Fair 2014, the industry reflected on the best toys delivered in 2013.

Pay attention to this toy list for these reasons:

– Most of these toys are pretty awesome and were top sellers for Christmas 2013.
– As they were released last year, and will soon be replaced with 2014’s offerings, they will soon be drastically reduced in price, if that hasn’t happened already.
– In the months since their release other helpful parents have been leaving their own feedback on Amazon, giving you the chance to scroll through and find out what these toys are really like.

Collectable Range Toy of the Year – Robofish by Zuru

Go to around 2 minutes in where you can see how realistic the fish looks in a pool.

Action Toy of the Year – Nerf N-Strike Elite Rapidstrike CS-18
This is often reduced to £30, but for around the same money you can pick up the Hail-fire, which is a couple of years old, but huge and awesome.

Construction Toy of the Year – Friends Dolphin Cruiser, LEGO
Pick any of the LEGO Friends range and you’re onto a winner.

Pre-School Toy of the Year – Toot-Toot Drivers Train Station, Vtech
All of the Toot-Toot range are compatible and can be clipped together, and all are equally brilliant.

Pre-School License Toy of the Year – Doc McStuffins Doctor’s Bag Set, Flair

Doc McStuffins Kit

It’s a doctor’s bag, with pink glitter on it -what’s not to love.

Action Game of the Year – Gooey Louie, John Adams
An absolute nuisance to set up, and requires a steady supply of elastic bands, but was a firm favourite with Son#2 for a couple of years.

Board Game of the Year – Monopoly Empire, Hasbro
No experience, so no comment.

Innovative Toy of the Year – Furby Boom! Hasbro

More engaging than 2012’s Furby, but still drives parents crackers.

Outdoor Toy of the Year – Smart Trike, Mookie
Trike buggy hyrbid offering versatile transport for around £100.

Fashion Doll of the Year- Monster High 13 Wishes Dolls, Mattel
13 Wishes is the latest UK Monster High release. Earlier editions are often cheaper, but just as fun and quirky.

Lifestyle Toy of the Year ChillFactor Squeeze Cup Slushy Maker, Character Options

I was sent two of these to review and we had great fun with them. They are a little messy to clear up, but they really work, and have helped me come to terms with the Mr Frosty denial I endured throughout my childhood. A new icecream shaped cup is being launched this year, which appears to work in the same way.

Toy of the Year – Teksta Robotic Puppy, Character Options

Trainable robotic puppy for people who enjoy challenging interactive toys that bark.
