Top Toys For Girls in 2013
Looking for inspiration? Want to know what the new and popular toys for girls in 2013 are?
Continues to do well in the doll market. Yet to overthrow Barbie as the supreme princess, but has a niche appeal to older girls. Winner of British Toy and Hobby Association Girls Toy of the Year Award. More information on Monster High here. Power Ghouls is a super-hero inspired line released earlier in 2013. 13 Wishes: Haunt the Casbah is the latest release (June 2013).
This pastel coloured LEGO range aimed at girls has provoked a fair degree of controversy, but remains one of the toy giant’s most successful properties. The largest two sets are Olivia’s House, launched last year and so no often available at reduced prices, and the newer Summer Riding Camp set.
Sofia the First – New Disney Princess
The Disney Princess brand has added to it’s characters. Sofia is a little girl, learning how to be a princess, after her mother marries the King. Sofia debuted in the made-for-TV musical movie, Once Upon a Princess, and now has her own TV show on Disney Junior (not yet available in UK, but toys and DVD are).
Barbie continues to dominate the doll sector and recently expanded into construction toys with the release of Barbie Mega Bloks, although I think Barbie fans would do better to stick with the DVD-inspired lines, like the Popstar dolls.
Skylanders Giants is the most popular video game of 2013, but if you haven’t bought your yet, you might want to wait until October, when the next Skylanders wave, SWAP Force, will be released.
Anything, but in the UK, Lullaby Peppa Pig is especially awesome, or for US dwellers, Hug n Oink Talking Peppa.
He’s still king of the bestsellers list, with new colours released on what seems to be an hourly basis. He also has a mini Furby friend called Party Rocker.
The Time For Your Check Up Doll won the Preschool Toy Of The Year Award in February, but personally I love the sparkly Doctors Bag set.
Despicable Me 2
Released with this Summer and the toy line to go with it is awesome. There are mini minions, plush minions, singing minions and talking minions. Be fast. I am predicting a severe minion shortage by Christmas.
The latest edition to the Lala collection are Loopsy Hair – doll with long groomable hair. But I prefer the original style Lalas and I especially like the Littles collection.
Mega Bloks recently released some Hello Kitty construction sets, which make cute playsets, but not as cute as the adorable Vellutata kits available in the UK (some sets on Amazon.com and eBay).
Sticky sequins you can use to add a splash of ‘bling’ to any smooth, hard surface.
